Just a Feeling

Thanks to Marie Gene’s current playlist, I’ve recently added Maroon 5’s Just a Feeling to my own. It was love at first hearing probably because its melancholic melody unsurprisingly soothed my soul. Unsurprisingly because I sometimes seem to maneuver myself right into misery.

Looking up the lyrics online, I confirmed that the song speaks of an end of an affair and the succeeding sadness that swallows. For all who similarly have found themselves at the rawer end of heartbreak, how will you move on from such misfortune? How will you mend your broken heart?

Reality is you’re the only one who could answer your question. People can move on by various means and at various speeds. Thus, there’s no single solution to mend a broken heart. Sorry to disappoint if you came for a definitive answer. But I did give one: it will only depend on how you cope with the situation.

However, moving on may actually hasten if we internalize the title of Maroon 5’s melancholic mantra. If we realize that the sadness we wallow ourselves in is just a feeling, something we can very much control and get rid of, then we’d probably deal with them more accordingly. Since they are merely ill feelings, then we can readily dispose them the moment we desire to move on.

A word of caution though, the fact that we can immediately let go of them also means that we could readily contract them if we allow ourselves. Thus, the moment you decide to initiate the process of moving on, immunize yourself from the dreadful disease of depression you’ve cured yourself from.

When the time comes when it seems like gloom has become your only companion, remember that it’s just a feeling. Just a feeling that can be fleeting if you realize that life is too short to dwell on such feelings.
